Illustrated talk by Professor Rob Adams
Over the last 35 years, central Melbourne’s urban landscape has changed significantly and continues to evolve to meet the rapidly increasing population and the onset of climate change. Where once our central city was a central business area occupied mainly by 9 to 5 by workers, it has now become a vibrant 24/7 mixed use centre no longer dominated by the car but flooded with pedestrians.
The city has moved to accommodate these changes by removing over 80 hectares of asphalt, widening footpaths, planting trees and providing increased open space. This has not been a business as usual approach but rather a change in the way the city is designed and managed. The approach taken by Melbourne has been acclaimed globally as an innovative and achievable approach to our changing cities.
This Urban Choreography will be the subject of the talk given by Prof. Rob Adams. Refreshments will be served before the talk. Bookings essential.
