Think it, build it, solve it and become an Imagineer at Scitech these April school holidays. Amazing hands-on activities, shows and demonstrations will immerse you in creative and educational experiences based on design and engineering. If you could build your own sustainable house, what would it include? Solar panels, non-toxic building materials, a rainwater tank?
Create and design your own environmentally sustainable house out of card and recycled materials. How could you make it more sustainable? Let your imagination run wild, and take a selfie with your creation to share on Facebook or Instagram. In the Rio Tinto Tinkering Space, design and create simple or complex portable spinners, or design and make a variety of tumbling and balancing toys.
You might be using technology in your everyday life that was developed right out of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, like the tiny cameras found in many smartphones. Take a trip to space and discover the technology developed for space that is now used in daily life, in our Planetarium show, ‘To Space & Back’!
The Chevron Science Theatre will be transformed by the ‘Burning, Melting, Saving’ show, and in the Puppet Theatre, our youngest problem solvers can help Rowena the Rat build a new pram using spare parts in ‘Find It Fix It’.
The ever popular ‘Meet the Scientists’ sessions will have a focus on WA engineering innovation, covering interesting topics from women in engineering to humanitarian work. And children aged 7 to 11 can become ‘Engineers for a Day’ in the CSIRO Lab, designing and creating their own marvels of invention. Entry to Scitech is available through General Admission, (CSIRO Lab workshops must be booked through the Scitech website).
