Back by popular demand, Belvoir will present an encore season of its hit adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s ground-breaking feminist essay, A Room of One’s Own. This is a limited opportunity for those who missed out on the initial sold-out run, it will play from 6th to 23rd May in the Upstairs Theatre.
Anita Hegh’s virtuosic central performance ushered in the re-opening of Belvoir St Theatre in September of last year, as Carissa Licciardello’s impressive mainstage directorial debut brought the famous essay into bold theatrical clarity.
Witty and passionate, Woolf’s argument, and the story of women writers and the rooms in which they write, remains as fresh and powerful as the day it was written. What started as a lecture to a group of students in the nineteen-twenties became one of the finest pieces of writing in the last hundred years, and has now been adapted for the Belvoir stage in a wise and incisive take that was described as ‘…nothing less than transcendental’ by the Sydney Morning Herald.
